Book Fair @ St Mary the Virgin Church

There is a brand new event coming up in Newington – a Book Fair.  The first one is on Saturday 8 October, and will be on the 2nd Saturday of each month.  The venue for each one is St. Mary the Virgin Church, from 9.30 to 3.30 with the aim of raising funds for maintenance of the church roof.

The book sellers will be used book dealers who regularly exhibit and have tables at other book fairs across Kent, and sometimes in Sussex, Surrey and London.

Newington Festival 2017 @ Newington Primary School

The Village Festival is on Saturday, July 15 (Noon-6pm) on the school field. It gets bigger and better each year, increasing its attractions and free events.

A free children’s fancy dress will be held for Years 2 and under; and Years 3-6 – and there’s a gift for all entrants. Judging at 3pm will be followed by a free children’s magic show with Mrs Dolly Mixture at 3.30pm.

An Elton John tribute show with Jamie and the Jets (12.15pm) kicks off the first of two free concerts. The second features: Marylebone Jelly (1.45pm); The Stress Monkeys (3pm); Key Street (4pm) and The KickBacks (5pm).

Among other attractions are: dance and gymnastics displays; birds of prey; chainsaw carver; classic cars; WWI living history group; tug-of-war; fairground; sideshows; craft stalls; The Village; food and drink, including BBQ, curries, ices, real ales and teas.

The family-friendly festival, organised by the Parish Council  is one of the largest events of its kind in Swale. There’s a free programme and admission is £2, under 16s free. No dogs or smoking.
